A family tragedy is the inspiration behind the company
Herbalife was founded more than 20 years ago thanks to a unique vision and dedication of one man - Mark Hughes. When he was a teenager, Mark watched helplessly as his mother developed a dependency on prescription diet pills. Sadly, she died at the age of just 36, after following a number of unhealthy diets.

As a result of this tragedy, Mark vowed to commit his life to helping others lose weight safely and effectively. In 1980, he launched Herbalife and skillfully built the company's reputation as a provider of the best weight-management, nutrition and personal-care products.
